Sore Jaw Muscles and Facial Pain

Sore Jaw Muscles and Facial Pain

When the TMJ is not in proper alignment, the body must compensate by placing the chewing muscles in a non-resting position. This can cause hyperactivity of the chewing muscles, resulting in symptoms such as:

  • pain in the muscles of the face
  • fatigue on chewing
  • inability to open the jaw all the way
  • swelling of the face
  • inability to open for long periods of time
